Volunteer at our plots

We welcome volunteers at all our plots. Find the plot you’re interested in and contact the plot leader.

 

ELYSIAN PARK / LA

Park along Park Dr. and walk along the Elysian Park trail towards the Marian Harlow Memorial Grove. The plots are spread out around multiple hillsides.

Volunteers meet the third Friday of every month 8-10am.

RIO DE LOS ANGELES / LA

From the park entrance (which is gated so check the hours) go towards the right towards the community center and restroom building. The plots are located behind the building to the right next to a picnic pavilion.

Volunteers meet weekly 9am for drop-in sessions. Email Luis to be added to the volunteer email list.

BALDWIN HILLS SCENIC OVERLOOK / LA

Park at the top of the overlook. Walk 5 minutes past the restrooms towards the amphitheater. The plot is past the stage to the left behind a hedge of goldenbush.

Community workdays every 3rd Saturday of the month.

USC CAMPUS / LA

The plot is located along the service alley between Watt Hall and the Iovine & Young building.

Open to USC students.

DEBS PARK / LA

From the Audubon Center walk to the parking lot entrance and up to the right along a dirt trail (right of the wider Walnut Forest Trail). The plot is 200’ up the path.

Volunteers meet first Fridays of every month.

CATALINA ISLAND / CHANNEL ISLANDS

The Wrigley Institute provides free transportation to and from the Wrigley Marine Science Center (WMSC) aboard the USC vessel Miss Christi, which departs from San Pedro daily. 

Open to USC Students.

ELEPHANT HILL / LA

Lathrop St. is a dead end street with ample street parking. Walk up the path 20’ and the plot is directly in front of you.

SAN BRUNO MOUNTAIN / DALY CITY

At the Crocker Gate Trailhead, walk 300’ along the paved asphalt path and the plot will be on your right. Community workdays are held quarterly and cohosted by San Bruno Mountainwatch and Test Plot.

The Starr King plots are located in the “annex” space. Look for the sign that says “This is a land care project.”

The Southern California “box canyon” is situated in residential Mount Washington neighborhood. The entrance is off Ave 45 (near 310 W. Ave 45)

ETHNOBOTANICAL PLOT / LA

Enter the LA River Center & Gardens and find the park tucked between San Fernando and Ave 26. The park is gated so check hours.
